Founded
in 1974, the Comets Soccer Club of Dallas, Inc. is one of the
oldest and most respected youth soccer clubs throughout the United
States and Internationally. The club operates as a non-profit
501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the advancement and training
of youth soccer players while promoting understanding, skill,
appreciation and enjoyment of the great game.
The Comets Soccer Club of Dallas, Inc. is a fully registered competitive
soccer club under the North
Texas Soccer Association, a member
of United States Youth
and Adult Soccer Associations, United States
Soccer Federation and the Fédération Internationale
de Football Association (FIFA).
In the past, the Comets Soccer Club has placed 14 players on U.S.
National Teams, 5 players on U.S. Olympic Teams, 14 players on the
Parade All-America list, and numerous graduating players with college
scholarships to Brown University, Rutgers, Southern Methodist University,
Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina, Indiana,
UCLA, Harvard, Notre Dame, St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Creighton, Maryland,
Syracuse, Washington, Regis, Midwestern and Centenary, as well as
many other fine universities.
Former Comets players Chad Deering,
previously a midfielder for the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer
and with the Dallas Sidekicks, and Jeff Agoos,
defender for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer, both played
on the U.S. National Team and participated in the 1998 World Cup in France
and the 2002 World Cup in Japan/Korea, respectively. Another former Comets
player, Philip Salyer ('81 Comets) was named to the U.S. National Team
for the U-20 World Cup in Argentina and is in the player pool for the
U-23 side. Philip has played with Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga
and FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, while
former Comets player Jamie Watson ('86 Comets) was a member of
the U.S. Men's U-17 National Team and now plays for Real
Salt Lake of the MLS.
The Comets coaching staff is led by a former professional player, Horst
Bertl. Coaching Director, Horst Bertl has coached with the
Comets Soccer Club since 1984 and formerly played for Hamburg of the
German Budesliga on teams that won the German Championship, the German
Cup and the European Cup.
The
Comets coaching staff, comprised of some of the area's most experienced
youth soccer coaches, strives to ensure the development of the individual
player, while teaching the importance of team effort, fair competition
and good sportsmanship.
